Whispers of the Past: Ani's Paradox

Ani stood at the edge of the ancient stone bridge, her heart pounding in her chest. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the tranquil river below. She had known this moment was coming, yet the anticipation of it had been like a vice around her lungs, making each breath a struggle.

She turned to face the man who had been by her side since she first stepped through the time portal. His name was Kael, and he was a knight from the medieval era. His eyes held a depth that spoke of a thousand untold stories, and his presence was both comforting and suffocating.

"Ani," Kael's voice was a whisper, "you must choose. The time has come."

Ani looked to the other side of the bridge, where the silhouette of her modern-day love, Alex, stood. Alex was a scientist, brilliant and passionate, but the bond they shared was fragile, like glass that could shatter at any moment.

"Kael," Ani began, her voice trembling, "I... I love you. But there's another who waits for me in my own time."

"Ani," Alex's voice cut through the air, "I've waited for you. You are my past, my present, and my future. I can't let you go either."
