The Luminous Prey

The night was heavy with the weight of the moon, its luminous glow piercing through the dense canopy of the forest. The group of preppers, a motley crew of survivalists, gathered around their makeshift campfire, the crackling flames casting eerie shadows on their faces. They had been preparing for this moment, the night of the full moon, when the forest would come alive with the eerie glow of luminescent creatures.

Amidst the group was a man named Alex, a seasoned prepper with a calm demeanor that belied the chaos swirling in his mind. He had organized this trip to the forest, a place he knew well, to test his group's survival skills and camaraderie. But as the night deepened, the tranquility was shattered by the sudden appearance of a figure cloaked in darkness, their eyes glowing with an unnatural light.

"Who's there?" Alex demanded, his voice steady despite the fear that had begun to take root in his chest.

The figure stepped forward, revealing a woman with a face obscured by a hood. "I am the Luminous Prey," she said, her voice echoing through the night. "And you are about to become my next meal."

The group, already on edge, scattered in panic. The woman moved with swift, deliberate steps, her eyes scanning the forest for her prey. Alex, determined not to be a sitting duck, led the charge, his survival instincts kicking into high gear.

As they ran, the forest seemed to close in around them, the moonlight casting long, ominous shadows. The woman was a ghostly figure, her movements fluid and unpredictable. She was fast, too fast for any of them to catch. They were being chased, and the sense of dread was palpable.

"Stay together!" Alex shouted, his voice barely carrying over the rustling of leaves and the occasional screech of an animal. But it was too late. The group was torn apart, each member pursued by the Luminous Prey in a separate direction.

Alex found himself alone, pursued by the woman's eerie glow. He dodged trees, leaped over fallen logs, and sprinted down narrow paths, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He was running blind, the woman's movements too quick to track. He could feel her presence, the coldness of her breath on his neck, the weight of her anticipation.

Then, without warning, the woman appeared before him, her face now fully revealed. It was a woman he knew, once a trusted ally, now a monster. "Why?" he gasped, his voice barely a whisper. "Why are you doing this?"

The woman's eyes, filled with malice, met his. "You were never a true prepper," she hissed. "You were just a puppet, Alex. And now, you will pay for your deception."

The Luminous Prey

Before he could react, she lunged, her claw-like fingers grasping at his throat. Alex fought back, his survival instincts taking over. He pushed her away, stumbled, and fell to the ground, the forest canopy above him a dark, ominous presence.

The woman stood over him, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "You were the Luminous Prey all along," she said, her voice a mixture of anger and satisfaction. "And now, you will be my meal."

As she advanced, Alex's world seemed to close in around him. He was trapped, his survival skills no match for the woman's cunning and speed. But as her fingers closed around his throat, a sudden realization hit him like a bolt of lightning.

"You were never a prepper," he whispered, his voice weak but filled with newfound resolve. "You were always the one who needed to be prepped."

The woman's eyes widened in shock, her grip faltering for a moment. Then, with a roar, Alex lunged, his fingers wrapping around her wrist. They grappled, their strength testing each other, until finally, Alex managed to break free.

The woman stumbled back, her eyes wide with fear. She turned and ran, the moonlight casting her figure in a ghostly glow. Alex, breathing heavily, watched as she disappeared into the forest, the sound of her footsteps fading into the night.

He lay on the ground, the forest around him silent except for the occasional rustle of leaves. He had escaped, but at what cost? The woman had revealed her true nature, and the trust within the group had been shattered.

As he stood up, the first light of dawn began to filter through the trees. The full moon had waned, but the truth of the night remained. The Luminous Prey had been revealed, and the preppers' moonlit misadventure had changed everything.
